Machine Rooms, Controllers & Standard Sizes

A closer look at how a Hyrise installation is engineered — from the machine room to the dimensional planning your architect will need.

Machine Room Elevator

An elevator machine room houses the mechanical and electrical components necessary for smooth, secure operation. Access is restricted to authorized personnel due to the sensitive equipment inside.

Key Components

  • Elevator Controller — the brain of the system; monitors calls, directs the car, and ensures safe operation.
  • Elevator Motor — the drive unit responsible for lifting and lowering the cabin.
  • Disconnect Switches — one for the unit's power supply, one for emergency lights.
  • Emergency Brakes & Limit Switches — critical components that enhance passenger safety.

Machine Room Types

  • Traction Elevator Machine Room — found in traditional systems; contains the controller, motor, and auxiliary components; requires a dedicated room.
  • Hydraulic Elevator Machine Room — common in low-rise buildings; houses the hydraulic pump unit and controller, located near the hoistway.

Machine-Room-Less (MRL) Elevators

In modern architecture, where space optimization matters, MRLs eliminate the need for a separate machine room — accommodating machinery above the shaft or in adjacent spaces.

Space Efficiency

No dedicated machine room required — ideal for tight urban sites.

Integrated Drive System

Compact design maximizes usable floor space and results in energy savings.

Motors, Drives & Controllers

Hyrise pairs geared and gearless traction motors with open-loop and closed-loop controllers, selected to match each building's travel and traffic requirements.

Standard Sizes

Standard car height: 2200mm. All dimensions are clear finished lift wells after plastering. ACO = Automatic Centre Opening, ATO = Automatic Telescopic Opening.
